Support GFD’s Centennial Celebration

In 2026, the Greensboro Fire Department (GFD) will celebrate 100 years as a fully professional fire service - a once-in-a-century milestone honoring the courage, service, and history of more than 600 firefighters who protect our city today. The Centennial year features a series of events produced by GFD in partnership with the Greensboro Firefighters Historical Society, Local 947 Professional Firefighters of Greensboro Union, and the North Carolina Folklife Institute. These programs honor the department’s legacy while connecting the public to the people and values behind the uniform through exhibits, storytelling, and celebration. Some events are open to the public while others are private celebrations to honor our current membership, our retirees and those that went before us.

These efforts, however, fall outside our operational budget. That’s why we’re inviting our valued partners, community leaders, and supporters to join us as sponsors in marking this historic occasion. Your generosity will help us create a meaningful and memorable celebration of 100 years of service—and ensure that this legacy continues for generations to come.

Support Us Throughout the Year

The GFFHS is a NC 501(c)3 non-profit organization with no federal, state, or local funding. Our funding is limited to membership fees, individual and business donations, and the fund raising of the GFFHS Firefighter Remembrance & Dedication Committee. The GFFHS is supervised by a volunteer board of directors with a set of bylaws to help guide its purpose.

You can help preserve and promote the history of the Greensboro firefighter. GFFHS relies solely on your support.

It all begins and continues with help from you. Maybe you want to be something more as a GFFHS “supporter”. Maybe you want to donate which helps with the cost of interviews, memorials, and dedications, or maybe you have memorabilia and a creative project to share with us. Whatever it is, your support can make all the difference.
